Phonétique: Enchaîment et liaison, seconde étape

Enchaînement
The adjective beau, nouveau, and vieux have an additional form which is used before masculine singular nouns beginning with a vowel sound. The final sound (consonant or semivowel) of the adjective is pronounced with the first syllable of the noun. Thus, un nouvel étudiant is pronounced [œ̃-nu-vɛ-le-ty-djã]

un bel endroit (地方)
un nouvel ami
un vieil ami

Liaison
Liaison occurs when a final consonant which is not normally pronounced is pronounced and linked to a following vowel sound.

ces beaux endrois

Enchaînement et liaison
Before a vowel sound, the masculine singular forms are pronounced like the feminine singular. For example, un bon ami/une bonne amie are distinguished only by the pronunciation of the article [œ̃ bɔ na mi]/[yn bo na mi].

une mauvaise étudiante / un mauvais étudiant
